With the early cases of Covid-19 being registered across the world, the medical staff at BMC's Kasturba Hospital had already started preparations in advance to combat cases in Mumbai, if any. However, with the quick spread of the disease to multiple countries- including the United States, Italy and the Middle East, the BMC did a reassessment as a part of the mitigation and preparedness plan.
Hon. Chief Minister, Shri Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray has reviewed the preparedness and provided his valuable inputs. Hon. Mayor, Smt Kishoritai Pednekar also met the teams, and reviewed the infrastructure.
Hon. Municipal Commissioner, BMC, Shri Praveen Pardeshi convened a meeting to take a progress update and consult with health experts from the World Health Organization (WHO), the Indian Medical Association (IMA), heads of major entry hubs such as the Mumbai Port Trust and the Railways, health officers from the Maharashtra State Government, medical staff from BMC's hospitals and heads of major private hospitals in Mumbai. The objective was to review and further refine our multi-pronged plan of action that lets us stay ahead of the curve, to be prepared, and to address anxieties, early cases and subsequent spread of COVID-19, if there are any cases rumoured or reported in Mumbai.
We have compiled and collated information from reliable sources - the BMC's Health Department team, the Government of India's Ministry of Health, the WHO, Centre for Disease Control (CDC), and major healthcare organizations for the benefit of our citizens.
Further updates will be shared through our social media - @MyBMC, our website, and physically at our hospitals and schools.
Please make use of the information available to protect yourself, your fellow Mumbaikars, and prevent the spread of the infection but also more importantly, misinformation.
